| What is Reiki?
The revolution in health care is upon us. Patients are taking responsibility for their own health and many are turning to alternative forms of healthcare. Reiki is one of the most popular forms of these alternative healthcare methods. There is evidence from doctors, nurses, researchers, and graduate students regarding the efficacy of Reiki in the treatment of many disorders and you can view it here: Reiki News Research from the Reiki.org page. Clinical studies are also in progress through the National Institute of Health on the efficacy of Reiki in the treatment of various disorders. Reiki is a non-intrusive, hands on form of natural healing which can be used to heal both the body, mind, and spirit. Reiki is very powerful and can be used in many ways. The word Reiki is a Japanese word composed of two words, Rei and Ki which are displayed as the background image of this page. Rei stands for universal and Ki stands for life force energy, thus Reiki stands for universal life force energy. Without this life force energy we would die. The more of it we have the healthier we are, both physically, mentally, and spiritually. This energy is also known as chi in Chinese, prana in Hindi, mana in Hawaiian, orenda in some Native American languages, and it has many other names in other cultures. Reiki is one way of restoring this life force energy. A Reiki practitioner will lightly place their hands on various places on your body or a few inches above your body and leave their hands on each position for about 5 minutes. Many people who are treated by Reiki practitioners notice a sense of heat from the practitioners hands, some notice coolness, some notice a tingling feeling, or some notice no sensations at all. Everyone experiences a great deal of relaxation. Some people claim to experience an increased awareness of spirituality. Though Reiki is not a religion it can be used by practitioners of any religion. There is the traditional story, which is not true and there is the real story. The traditional story follows. After that I'll tell the real story. Here is the story which most westerners have heard. Before the turn of the 20th century a principal of a Christian school in Japan by the name of Dr. Mikao Usui was challenged by one of his students to demonstrate healing the same way Jesus could heal in the Bible. Dr. Usui could not demonstrate healing and did not know how such healing could be accomplished. He immediately resigned from his position and went on a quest to find the answer to the student's question. He searched at a theology school in the United States and Buddhist temples in China, Tibet, and Japan. At a monestary in Japan he came across some ancient Buddhist manuscripts written in Sanscrit. He was convinced the manuscript held the answer to his search but did not know how to translate them. The abbot of the monestary convinced him to go on a pilgrimage to sacred Mt Kuriyama near Kyoto. Here, Mikao Usua fasted and meditated for 21 days but nothing happened. On the 21st day he prayed to be given the answer to his question, then suddenly it happened. He became aware of a bright light rapidly moving toward him until it finally struck him between the eyes. The light then turned into the symbols he had seen in the manuscript and then turned into an explanation of how these symbols could be used for healing. After coming down from the mountain, Mikao Usua healed several people by placing his hands on them. Following this, Dr Usui spent the next few years healing the sick in the beggars quarters in Kyoto. Dr. Usui then passed on his Reiki knowledge to many individuals, one of which was Chujiro Hayashi, a retired military officer, who developed the hand positions and attunement process still in use today. Mr. Hayashi opened a clinic and passed his knowledge on to Hawaya Takata, a Japanese woman living in Hawaii, who opened clinics and passed it on to many others. Today, there are thousands of individuals attuned to Reiki and the number is rapidly increasing due to media exposure. Since the Reiki symbols were initially secret there are many variations of them and many different styles of Reiki. Most Reiki practitioners feel that if Reiki remains non-competitive and each school of through within it maintains an attitude of unconditional love, the Reiki energy will continue to flow. The real story is that at the end of the second world war, Hawaya Takata westerenized the history Reiki to make it more appealing to people from the United States. Actually, Mikao was not a principal of a Christian school, but was a Buddhist of the Tendai tradition. There is also speculation that he never went on a pilgrimage searching for the answer to how a person could be healed since Buddhism had been using many energetic healing practices for many years. Reiki is simply a variation of some of those healing techniques which has worked very well and which has become popular in the west.
What are the Reiki principles?
What are the Reiki hand positions? They are (half hour session, patient laying on their back)
Note that I'll give more information on the hand positions in my Reiki class (see below) Where do I find a
Reiki practitioner? So far there is no comprehensive database of Reiki practitioners on the web, although incomplete databases do exist. Many Reiki practitioners are also licensed as massage therapists so they can easily be found in the phone book under massage. Many Reiki practitioners can also be found in the phone book under holistic health. How do I become a Reiki practitioner? First of all to become a Reiki practitioner you must
be aware the Reiki is a spiritual practice and your motive for pursuing
a practice must be to increase your own spirituality and to serve others
and be a channel for healing energy. You must not go into a
practice with the primary goal of making easy money or else you will
fail. You should also be aware that many states require Reiki practitioners to become licensed. In my class I'll show you how to determine which states this applies to. Many clinics that offer Reiki also periodically offer Reiki classes. Many practitioners also offer classes on the web at a price that is much lower than at a clinic. You must be attuned to Reiki energy and you will need at least two classes, the first level class will enable you to practice Reiki on yourself and others and the second level class will increase your energy and enable you to send Reiki energy at a distance. There is also a 3rd level class, the Master/Teacher level which will enable you to attune others and teach Reiki. I have set up Reiki classes which you currently can take for only $30 per class, which is a real deal since many clinics charge $150 or more for the level 1 class and up to $500 for the master level class. In my classes you'll learn all you need to know about Reiki, you'll receive attunements for each level, and I'll answer all your questions via email or web forms. Contact me via email and I'll give you access to these classes.
Click here to see what you'll learn in these classes Click here to see what former students have said about their attunements
An attunement is a ceremony where the Master/Teacher channels Reiki energy to the student and attunes, or harmonizes the student's own energy to this higher vibrational energy. There are attunements for each level of Reiki up to the Master/Teacher level and also for alternative forms of Reiki. Attunements can also be done at a distance (such as over the web). In each of my classes listed above you will be attuned to the Reiki energy pertaining to that level. How do I find more information? There are thousands of sites on the web dealing with Reiki, so I cannot possibly choose between most of them. Therefore I'll give you one of the oldest at reiki.org and you can use the links on that site to go to wherever you choose for more information: http://www.reiki.org/FAQ/NetResourceLinks.html What will I learn in your classes:
What former students have said about their attunement:
Hi Dave, Yes I felt a particularly warm flow through my hands
and heart chakras, as though they were pulsing. Over the weekend I was
detoxing a lot, emotionally as well as physically. I had difficulty
getting to sleep last night because the pulsing through my heart and hands
was so pronounced. Today I feel much better though. I have been using
the Power symbol over my water and on my hands before I do a treatment on
myself. I will continue to do treatments on myself every
day. Jessica, MA

Hi Dave,
Thank you for the attunement. I have felt different
since. I want to share with you what I experienced.
I meditated for about an hour before the attunement.
My palms started to feel tingly as I meditated. During
the attunement my hands really opened and tingled. At
one point my head felt pulled forward and I felt a
swirling current a bit around my head. I don't know
how long the attunement lasted but I laid down after a
bit. I went into a trance kind of or something like a
dream. I heard a voice coming at me from a distance
and say something as it whizzed passed me. Then I saw
a deer. It looked at me and came towards me until it
was right in front of me. Then I came out of it. I
felt a bit disoriented so I went to drink water.
I have practiced everyday since.

Dear David,
Yes, I could feel a sense of icy cold on top of my head/Crown Chakra...
I could feel it about an hour-long and then the sense of coolness is start to evaporate.
Somehow it always come and go.
I read on some infos about reiki and I tried to practice and when I do the meditation/self-healing I can feel both of my hand-palms have a sensation like holding a Tennis Ball !
Thank you, Sir.

Hi, my hands got warm, my feet did a little. I got a little light headed,
felt sick to my stomach for just a moment, and weak or worn out after. My
senses feel heightened. I woke up a few times last night( not the
attunement), and felt a little tired today, but I feel like there's energy
behind me. This energy is pushing me, helping me through the day. My hands
have been warm all day.
All The Best,

Hi David,
Wow! First, as I was going deeper and deeper into meditation, I could see gold ribbon-like light swirling around my crown chakra and spiralling downward through the chakras, out my feet. Then I became more relaxed and heat, my right hand especially became very warm. And then for about 20 minutes, I didn't feel anything at all, not asleep, just totally relaxed. A lot of energy around my heart chakra. And when I opened my eyes, both hands were asleep, buzzing, and there was a ringing in my left ear.
Right at the beginning, one of my cats jumped up onto my lap and lay there purring away. She has a hurt hind leg, has been hurt for a long time. I could feel the heat from my hand going through her hip area, and then she jumped down. Other than that, nothing else occurred. Oh, I did see many faces ... I remember an egyptian, a woman shapeshifting into a bear, a native american, and someone ( a man) with glasses.
Thank you very much.
Blessings,
Karen, WA
